Gaza: Israeli air and ground attacks in southern Gaza have killed at least eleven Palestinians in the city of Khan Younis and its nearby town of Abasan al-Kabira, according to reports
The latest raids form part of a broader escalation in violence that has seen numerous Israeli strikes targeting residential areas in eastern and southern neighborhoods.
In one attack, an Israeli airstrike on a house in Abasan al-Kabira killed four people and wounded several others. Another assault in the Maen area of Khan Younis resulted in at least three fatalities. Earlier, four people were also reported killed in Khan Younis itself. These raids occurred alongside more than 20 Israeli military operations against homes across the city, as Israeli forces pursue suspected militant targets.
The violence comes amid intensified hostilities following the Hamas-led attacks that began on October 7, 2023. The Israeli military has confirmed the death of a 20-year-old sergeant from its 51st Infantry Division who “fell in battle” in southern Gaza. Military sources also report that at least 858 Israeli soldiers have died since the start of the conflict.
The rising death toll in Gaza’s south highlights the ongoing toll of the conflict on civilians and combatants alike. The frequent strikes on populated urban areas underscore the increasingly deadly nature of the fighting and the difficulty in separating military targets from civilian zones. Humanitarian concerns continue to mount as residents face continuous bombardment, displacement, and growing insecurity amid the prolonged conflict.
